Owlcat Lauches Kickstarter Initiative for Pathfinder: Kingmaker

Pathfinder Kingmaker

Owlcat Games has launched a KickStarter fundraising campaign for Pathfinder: Kingmaker. The team is hoping to raise $500,000 during its time on KickStarter.

Owlcat & its vision for the single-player RPG

The game will take place in the Stolen Lands, a location familiar to fans of the Pathfinder IP. Players will run into familiar characters and visit known locations as well as meet up with new enemies along the way. There will be a number of classes and powers along with “specialized archetypes, powerful arcane and divine spells”. The goal is to allow players to customize their characters to suit their own play style.

Along the way, players will meet and recruit companions. Each comes along with their own goals, personalities, alignment and agenda. How well they mesh with the player or each other will remain to be seen.

The game will feature an open world that allows players to explore at will and not along a set path. During exploration, players can claim lands as their own in order to create their own kingdom. Diplomacy, politics and the ability to “lead troops in battle” will be important parts of Pathfinder: Kingmaker.

As you’ll discover, building a kingdom goes beyond simply building a stronghold: Your kingdom is a reflection of your character and your choices throughout the game. It is a living thing shaped by your alignment, your allies, and your ability to lead your people. Not only can your kingdom expand, opening up new territories and allowing you to build new towns and communities, but your capital city will physically change based on your decisions, your policies, and even whom you choose to ally with. As your kingdom grows, a number of factions and neighboring countries will come to you to seek favor—and to test your strength.

The team has a detailed explanation of many of the game’s features and what it hopes to accomplish during development. You can learn more on the Pathfinder: Kingmaker KickStarter page.
