Sometimes a Kickstarter comes around where you can’t help but cringe a little every time you get news on its development. And this is certainly the case with Super Action Squad (originally named Super Retro Squad and later changed to Operation Pyxel). The latest update announced yet another name change to the game. As of now, it’s being called Super Retro Crossover. Apparently, this is to reflect some change in direction.

It has been a while since we last heard news from Super Action Squad. Backers were left in the dark for several months until this latest news hit. We had previously covered the news that last year development became a solo act. Up until July, Jay Pavlina had been working on the game himself. It seems he brought in another person to help out a few months ago. As far as I know, thus is the first backers have heard about it.

Not So Terrible News

Despite the controversies surrounding Super Action Squad over the past four years, there is good news coming for those still excited for it. The update goes on to state that it should hit Steam Early Access sometime early next year. Before it does, a trailer will be released to start the hype train. Reading the comments, some backers are still excited to see it finally release, and I do hope it does finally see the light of day.

I may not have personally backed Super Action Squad, but looking at the past track record I’m glad I didn’t. Whether the newly christened Super Retro Crossover will be good or not remains to be seen, though. Hopefully, it will make a 2017 showing.
