"We literally mean everyone," the devs write on the Kickstarter page, "kids, adults, grandparents, people with disabilities, everyone!"There's a lot to do in Butt Sniffin' Pugs on top of the obvious, which is exploration of the aptly named Central Bark. No, it's not a coffee shop where dog friends hang out and crack wise, but rather the adorable, pixel-art setting of the game.
While exploration is a big part of Butt Sniffin' Pugs, there's much more to it. Obvious things like making friends with other pugs, opening up new worlds by solving puzzles, or just pooping on stuff. In antiquity, pugs were bred to be the companion animals of Chinese royalty. The noble dog, known for its distinctive wrinkled face and cartoonish features, moved from its roots in the royal palaces of ancient imperial China to the West in the 16th century, where the breed gained further popularity among the noble families of Europe.
This proud creature, prized for its loyalty and friendly demeanor, is now a dog of the people. No more shackled to the millstone of monarchy, the freedoms won by humanity in the last 100 years have led to the democratization of pugs. Pugs are more likely to be found in the homes of the common people than to be holding court in one of the world's few remaining monarchal states.
Butt Sniffin' Pugs just launched its Kickstarter and is hoping to reach its $60,000 goal by the beginning of November. Seth Macy is a freelance writer who just wants to be your friend. Follow him on Twitter @sethmacy, and MyIGN at sethgmacy, or check out Seth Macy's YouTube channel.
