Co-op dog simulator Butt Sniffin Pugs launches Kickstarter campaign

Watch, dogs!

Last year I wrote about Butt Sniffin Pugs, a game about being a dog smelling canine bottoms. Now that game has just launched a Kickstarter campaign.

Set in a dog park called Central Bark, Butt Sniffin Pugs isn't going to be a goal-oriented game, but there will be loose objectives in the form of discovering secrets hidden in the scenery. By pooping, peeing, biting, barking and more, you'll be able to uncover the weird, whimsical secrets of this most enchanted of parks.

"In Butt Sniffin Pugs, everything in the game is interactable with your different 'pug powers'. By interacting with the world in different ways, you'll uncover multitudes of puzzles, unlockables, and secrets in each area of Central Bark," developer SpaceBeagles boasted.

A dog's life.

One of Butt Sniffin Pugs' main components is its emphasis on co-op, as two players can frolic around together. You can also customise your pooches and the world now has a day/night cycle along with multiple maps to wreak havoc in.

"BSP is a basically a love letter to open-ended games like Animal Crossing and Minecraft... but contains a layer of simplistic design so that gameplay will be easygoing and accessible for all audiences!" the developer stated. "And when we say 'all audiences', we literally mean everyone... kids, adults, grandparents, people with disabilities, everyone! We want everybody to be able to experience the joy of videogames through BSP, regardless if they play games or not."

SpaceBeagles isn't kidding about the accessibility thing, as the game was demoed with a strange controller consisting of two oversized tennis balls (one for each player) used like a trackpad and adorned with a pug butt plushie operating as one of the game's three buttons. The developer has been collaborating with the AbleGamers Charity to manufacture another one of these, though so far only one is available at the Kickstarter's highest price tier of $1500.

Just reserving the core game on its own is only $15.

Butt Sniffin Pugs is currently aiming for a Q1 2018 release on PS4, PC and Mac should the game reach its $60k Kickstarter goal by its 3rd November deadline.
