Modiphius Entertainment and Cabinet Entertainment have revealed their new edition of the Mutant Chronicles board game Siege of the Citadel, scheduled to release in late 2017.

The original version of dark science fiction board game was the creation of renowned designer Richard Borg (Memoir ’44, BattleLore) and released by Pressman Toys in 1993.  Part war game and part role-playing game, Siege of the Citadel presented battles between teams of “Doom Troopers” and the inhuman forces of the “Dark Legion,” while pursuing their own secret agendas. The new edition will feature updated rules and new artwork, including new sculpts for the plastic miniatures, while maintaining the dark, dystopian genre and the game’s unique rotating overlord style of game play.

The component list has not been finalized, but the game will include at least 40 pre-assembled unpainted plastic minis, 7 double-sided game boards, 9 custom dice, 5 plastic player trays, 162 cards, 12 stand-up doors and portals with plastic bases, tokens, and terrain tiles.  The game is for 1 to 5 players.  The MSRP will be determined by the final component list, but is expected to land around $80.00 to $90.00.

Borg is the lead designer of this new edition, teaming up with three other leading designers:  Kevin Wilson (Descent:  Journeys in the Dark), Eric M. Lang (Blood Rage), and Jay Little (X-Wing Miniatures Game).  Modiphius announced plans for the new edition late last year (see “‘Kung Fu Panda’ and the Return of ‘Siege of the Citadel’”).

The project is being funded through a Kickstarter campaign, which quickly surpassed its $60,000 funding goal during its first day.  Modiphius is offering a retailer pledge level that includes eight copies of the game.

Earlier this summer, Ninja Division announced plans to bring the wider Mutant Chronicles world to the U.S. with the Warzone Resurrection miniatures game (see “Ninja Division Brings ‘Mutant Chronicles’ Back to U.S.”).
