This artist wants to construct an entire convenience store in NYC made of felt

While New Yorkers love bodegas, mom-and-pop shops and other food emporiums, few would envision snuggling up to their contents. Not so London artist Lucy Sparrow, whose installation, New York Convenience Store, proposes to re-create the inventory of a typical corner market in sewn and stuffed felt. The project is a Gotham variant of the one that Sparrow presented in her hometown in 2014, which featured plush-toy versions of the candies, sodas, salty snacks, canned food and other provisions that typically beckon people saddled with empty cupboards or an acute case of the munchies. Twizzlers, Fruit Loops, Pop-Tarts and Junior Mints are just a few of the items that the artist has transformed with her soft-serve schtick. Sparrow is currently in the final week of a Kickstarter campaign to raise $53,000 to fund her piece.
