Shroud of the Avatar Kickstarter adds Dragonlance author Tracy Hickman as lead story designer

Shroud of the Avatar: Forsaken Virtues, the spiritual successor to Electronic Arts' Ultima series from Richard Garriott, added New York Times best-selling author Tracy Hickman as lead story designer, according to an update posted on the game's official Kickstarter blog.

Hickman is the author of many fantasy novels, including the Deathgate and Dragonlance series. The latter also spawned board game tie-ins, and Hickman and his wife will be launching a Kickstarter campaign in the coming months for their own game, according to a post on his official website.

"There is a tremendous opportunity to create something meaningful, challenging and wondrous in Shroud of the Avatar," Hickman said. "I'm thrilled to play a part in it."

Check out the video above to see Hickman talk about his involvement and how Garriott inspired him to help in "creating and pioneering a new way of experiencing story in game."

As of this writing, Shroud of the Avatar: Forsaken Virtue's Kickstarter campaign has received $920,802 in pledges of its $1 million goal. For more on the game, be sure to read our recent interview with Garriott.
