Hold the door: now Game of Thrones fans are making Hodor doorstops

It was only a matter of time, really. On Monday night, we were horrified by the fate (and presumed demise) of Game of Thrones’s Hodor (Kristian Nairn), who was made to hold a door closed, futilely placing all his strength against the Night’s King’s and his army of the dead.

Heartbreakingly, the sacrifice was twofold: due to Bran’s time travelling, in the past a young Hodor – or Wylis, as he was then known – suffered a seizure and lost the ability to say anything other than “hodor”, a mangled echo of “hold the door” that would go on to become his moniker.

By Wednesday, people had started making Hodor doorstops.

Some (as first reported by Mashable) were home-made efforts: think planks of woods, with the name “Hodor” written on them, or pre-made Hodor figure, suddenly given a new function .

Others, involved a little more artistry  and a Kickstarter appeal.

Elsewhere, people started amending the “Hold the door” signs at lifts, giving them an appropriately Hodor-centric makeover.

We’re not sure if all this is tasteless and tragic, or incredibly funny. So we’re just going to declare it “Hodor”.
