With the wealth of platformers out in the market today, developers have to make their own project stand out from the crowd with a unique look and innovative gameplay. The art style has to be eye-catching; if it isn’t, potential backers will back away without so much as a second thought or a penny dropped. There are also way too many platformers out there that simply require you to run, jump and occasionally double jump. It’s been tried and done, and as fun as it is, people want something more.

Lynn and the Spirits of Inao, developed by Bloomylight Studio, brings all that and more to the table. Bloomylight Studio have fused together the distinct art style of manga with a conventional platformer and a few innovative game mechanics to boot. I mean, just take a look at the gif below. Not only does it look gorgeous, Lynn and the Spirits of Inao will also challenge you with a series of puzzles, combat (jumping on enemies or taking them out with a spectral blade or various bombs), boss battles, and “tactical or infiltration phases”—although the latter has not yet been explained in detail.

One of the most intriguing features of the manga platformer is the night and day on-the-fly shifting. This power can be used to your advantage when confronting enemies or solving puzzles, as “elements of the décor react differently by day and by night.”LynnandtheSpiritsof Inao2

Overall, the campaign and game has got a similar vibe to LUNA: The Shadow Dust—both games are also slated for release roughly April 2017, so I wouldn’t be surprised if a short demo was launched sometime during the Kickstarter campaign. The Lynn and the Spirits of Inao campaign, which was launched just a few days ago, has since accrued around €11,000 of its goal of €53,000.
