Pied Piper Launches ‘Skip Beat’ Anime Project on Kickstarter

2 min read

Skip Beat HeaderThe folks at Pied Piper began their Indiegogo project for Skip Beat at the beginning of March and over the first half of its run they were pledged some $20,000 or so with about 200 backers. THat was out of the $200,000 they were looking for to bring over this project, which you can find out more about here when we talked about it at the beginning of the month. But, as has been discussed, a lot of people simply do not use Indiegogo and the nature of that crowdfunding site has kept the project languishing for much of this time, which is a shame as it really is worth getting out there as nobody else is willing to pick it up.

Thankfully, Pied Piper has now begun to run this project on Kickstarter as well as that has gone live this afternoon. With the project extended through mid-April now, there’s 29 days to go to raise $155,000 as they’ve shifted the Blu-ray release to its own tier in hopes of getting the project funded in general first and then making a hard push to hit that level. The basic tier to get the DVD project is $60 and it comes with lots of good stuff.

The project is shooting for an October 2016 delivery date at the moment. Check out the full project here with its tiers and goals.

Skip Beat! was produced by Hal Film Maker and aired on TV TOKYO from October 2008 to March 2009 and currently streams on Crunchyroll. The anime is based on the on-going shojo manga by Yoshiki Nakamura, published in Japan in “Hana to Yume” and in North America by VIZ Media. Pied Piper, Inc. licensed the anime from TV TOKYO.

Plot Concept: Bright, diligent, and yet naïve 16-year-old Kyouko Mogami works hard to support the career and dreams of her childhood friend, crush, and rising pop icon, Shoutarou Fuwa. Toiling endlessly at burger joints and tea ceremonies, the innocent Kyouko remains unaware that day in day out, all her tireless efforts have been taken for granted, until, one day, she finds out that her beloved Shou sees her as nothing but a free servant. Shocked, heartbroken and enraged, she vows to take revenge on the rookie star by entering the ruthless world of entertainment herself. As she steps into this new life, Kyouko will face new challenges as well as people who will push her out of her comfort zone.
