So Knights and Bikes is a Kickstarter with some fairly big names behind it. It’s a small team, but among its ranks are Moo Yu, a developer who worked on Little Big Planet and Ratchet and Clank as well as Rex Crowle, The creative lead for Tearaway over at Media Molecule. Crowle mentions he was splitting 50:50 his time spent working, between Media Molecule and this project so he obviously has a lot of faith in it.

Knights and Bikes

Knights and Bikes has an art style is strikingly similar to Tearaway and the overall concept reminds me of the old TV show Mona the Vampire (I have no idea if that still runs, but it was a great 90s cartoon where a group of kids would imagine a bunch of paranormal activity and then go beat up the bad guys).

Essentially, the game seems to be about two girls and their pet goose exploring the ancient mysteries of the Isle of Scilly (an Archipelago off the coast of Cornwall) in the 80s on bikes.  It is an Action Adventure game inspired by SNES era RPGs (Try saying that 5 times as fast as you can) and has a hefty goal of £100,000 which is over 40% funded already. Knights and Bikes is still awaiting approval on the Steam Greenlight but is planned to be released for Windows, Mac, and Linux. Personally, I think they messed up badly by not planning to bring this game to Vita when it looks like it would fit like a glove, but I shan’t whine.

knightsandbikes4Overall, I’m curious about the game mainly due to the people involved. This isn’t usually the kind of game I would look twice at, but Ratchet and Clank and Tearaway are some of my favorite games. The Kickstarter also cites Earthbound and The Goonies as inspiration for the game. £12 puts you down for a copy of Knights and Bikes upon its release so if you’re interested it’s worth checking out.
