Sekai Project's Root Double Kickstarter Reaches Goal

posted on by Rafael Antonio Pineda
Game will be released on PC via Steam, PS Vita at a later date

Video game localizer and publisher Sekai Project's Kickstarter campaign to localize and release Regista/Yeti and Takumi Nakazawa's Root Double -Before Crime * After Days-: Xtend Edition visual novel reached its US$135,000 crowdfunding goal on Tuesday. As of press time, the campaign has raised over US$138,000.

The project added a digital-only PlayStation Vita backer reward last week for US$99, in addition to the previously announced US$225 tier, as well as rewards that include autograph boards by character designer Mikeou. A new Collector's Edition tier is also available. The PS Vita port will not be released at the same time as the PC game if the project is funded because it will take "at least a year" to finish. As in Japan, the port will only be available digitally due to the size limitations of the PS Vita's memory.

The Kickstarter launched on January 5 and will end on February 5 at 4:00 a.m. Japan Time (February 4 at 2:00 p.m. EST). Backer rewards include the game's original soundtrack, posters, tapestries, shikishi (autograph boards), blankets, and signed copies of the game. The project's stretch goals include a fan book and drama CDs.

Sekai Project is aiming for a tentative PC release date of March 2016.

Sekai Project describes the game as follows:

Rescue squad captain Watase Kasasagi wakes up without his memories in the middle of his most critical mission yet-- a nuclear meltdown at a research facility. In an unfamiliar place and without his years of training, he must rescue the survivors and escape... but could the key to the mystery behind the incident lie in the mind of Natsuhiko Tenkawa, a seemingly ordinary student?
