It might sound barking mad to create a gaming platform for dogs but a $25,000 Kickstarter appeal launched this week for just that. PupPod has taken the traditional treat dispenser and uses smart technology to give it a Candy Crush (Candy Crufts?) twist.

When your dog plays with the toy, which is wirelessly connected to the dispenser, it receive treats. The game moves through progressively harder levels to train the pooch to respond to different sounds and fulfil its intellectual potential.

If you’re out of the house you can check in with them via a built-in camera that streams video direct to your phone. Not only that but data stored means you can track your dog’s progress. And of course there’s a community for you to brag about your newly brainy canine.

So, if the PupPod reaches its fund-raising target, instead of spending their downtime tearing your new shoes apart, pets will get hooked on levelling up.
