Shenmue 3 pulls in three times Kickstarter request, PayPal campaign coming

The fundraising Kickstarter for Shenmue 3 wrapped up Friday night with 69,320 people giving $6.3 million to Yu Suzuki and his team to create the third game in the Shenmue trilogy.

But that doesn't mean the fundraising has stopped. Suzuki announced live on Twitch that same night that the team will begin accepting PayPal "donations" toward the game's budget soon. The Kickstarter goal to make the game was just $2 million.

That the Kickstarter brought in more than three times that goal means there will be a lot of additions to the title, including that Shenmue 3 will be set in an open world.

Over on the Team Yu website, the administrators posted that they will have news shortly on the future direction of the #SaveShenmue campaign.

When the Shenmue 3 Kickstarter campaign ended, it still had stretch goals announced for up to $11 million. The last goal achieved expanded the game's battle system to include advanced free battles, according to the Kickstarter page.

Shenmue 3 is the highest funded video game in Kickstarter history and the third highest funded in all of games.
