'Asylum' Fully Funded Through Kickstarter

by Rainier on Feb. 22, 2013 @ 6:44 p.m. PST

In Asylum players will be able to explore at leisure a vast and vivid asylum known as the Hanwell Mental Institute, while diving into a disturbing horror storyline unlike anything that has ever been seen before in the adventure genre.

The name and nature of this long awaited horror adventure are revealed along with a lengthy and moody trailer that shows its frightening atmosphere as well as a large selection of concept artwork, including the entire cast of characters in the game. While details are still scarce, it has transpired that players will be able to explore at leisure a vast and vivid asylum known as the Hanwell Mental Institute, while diving into a disturbing horror storyline unlike anything that has ever been seen before in the adventure genre.

For decades, the Hanwell Mental Institute has been housing patients of many ages with diverse degrees of mental illness. The institute admits feeble-minded men and women who are not fit for society under excellent conditions and nursing, with a high recovery rate thanks to advanced treatments pioneered by the universally acclaimed psychologist Dr. Ann Ebersbacher. Even patients with extreme mental disorders have shown positive progress and are now able to enjoy a full life inside the walls of the institute. Many others have returned to their families, ready to face new challenges and experiences in their improved conditions.

After four years of production the Senscape team has reached its Kickstarter goal of $100,666 and have revealed the stretch goals.

Further details:

  • The iPad port is going to be more than a simple conversion — rather, you can think of it as a companion of sorts. Play the game on your PC, quit without worrying about saving, then instantly continue playing on your iPad! It’s magical, just like Steve wanted it to be, and all thanks to the power of Dagon.
  • Speaking of Dagon: as I’ve stressed many times, everything we do with the engine will be open sourced to the community, including all these ports.
  • Please, keep in mind that the release date of the Android/OUYA ports might be later than 2013. This makes up for the minimal budget we’re asking to support these.
  • Oculus Rift is an upcoming device that will bring “virtual reality” support to games. You wear these googles and you feel like you’re actually inside the Hanwell Mental Institute. We’re determined to create the most immersive horror experience yet, and Oculus Rift support would be a huge feature for Asylum.
  • FIGS dubbing means that French, Italian, German, and Spanish languages will have dubbed voices for every character in the game. And because we have full control over these, we will distribute one version of the game with every localized language pack included.
  • The live orchestrated soundtrack would have a huge impact on Asylum. Daniel Pharos himself, our wonder musician, would be completely involved in this process that aims to bring key compositions of the game (including the main theme) to unexpected levels of awesomeness and rivalling the quality in major movies. Trust me, this would rock your socks off!
  • Finally, we have given enough hints about our ultimate stretch goal which is attractively priced (come on, you had to know that was coming!). In truth, we’re going to need more money to pull this off, but this is enough to get us started. Fans of Scratches are absolutely going to love what we have in mind doing with Asylum.
