[dropcap size=big]E[/dropcap]very week we take a brief look at all of the Kickstarter video game campaigns that launched in the previous week.  This isn’t to say that all of these projects are worth your hard earned cash, but with any luck having all of them in one place will make it easier to educate yourself on the projects you’d like to back, and which ones to run from.  You’ll find two types of campaigns listed, “featured” and “the rest“.  Featured campaigns are those that contain a significant amount of game information, are from known developers, or are significant in some other way.  The rest of the games are usually smaller campaigns that are lacking in information, are from unknowns, have unanswered questions, or have not yet stood out for one reason or another.

Featured Campaigns :

edgeofeternitylogoGame : Edge Of Eternity

What it is : Zack Keosaian wrote: “In Edge of Eternity players assume the role of this young man, currently attending the Academy of Astrya, as he meets the princess of the land, Selen. The pair team up to save their home, but the endeavor is made difficult by The Consortium, who unfortunately does more to hinder their progress than help it. Taking it upon themselves to focus on petty crimes than focus on the larger issue at hand, they pursue the two for their apparent “Illegal use of technology”, in which the transgression leaves them two no choice but to tiptoe around the world they only wish to save in order to avoid being captured by the army. ”

spookypoologoGame : Spooky Poo’s Happy Hell

What it is : Marcus wrote: “Over the past few years we’ve seen a huge resurgence in retro-styled pixel art games because many developers who grew up with that stuff are finally creating their own titles. It seems that trend may be evolving to include those who adore early polygonal games too. Spooky Poo’s Happy Hell, which just landed on Kickstarter, is inspired by the likes of the classic platformer Super Mario 64 but with a very different style. In this game you play as Spooky Poo, a black cat-like creature with a big red nose. Spooky wants a wish granted and somehow The Devil catches word and decides to help. However, The Devil grants the condition that Spooky Poo must survive all nine levels of Happy Hell to receive it!”

Tahira : Echoes of the Astral Empire is a turn based RPG that's crowdfunding on Kickstarter.Game : Tahira: Echoes of the Astral Empire

What it is : Marcus wrote: “Once, humans explored the stars and galaxies beyond. Now, they’ve somehow plunged back into a medieval state. This is the basic back story for Tahira: Echoes of the Astral Empire. Tahira is a woman in Avestan’s royal family who, upon the wake of her brother’s death, becomes the only heir to the throne. With no desire to take this role, she leaves before receiving a frightening message begging for her return a year later. As skilled as she may be, Thaira is just one person, which means she’ll add people to her party to fight off an impending invasion with all she’s got.”

callofcombatlogoGame : Call of Combat

What it is : Marcus wrote: “Of course, one of the biggest changes for the new version of Call of Combat is that it’s receiving a huge graphical update. That’s not to say the original was ugly, but there’s definitely no harm in making a game look nicer to appeal to a modern audience. In actual gameplay tweaks, there will be: larger battles, balanced gameplay, more maps, more weapons, and reduced lag. As the game’s focus is online multiplayer aspects such as leaderboards, regiments (clans), and a leveling system will also be implemented. The leveling system in particular will take into account how an entire team performs – not just one user. This is to ensure folks are team players.”

blog_thumbnail_12864458-1424379008Game : Infernax

What it is : Marcus wrote: “Berzerk Studio have been around the block a few times. Over the years they’ve released a great deal of games, and as such, have developed a bit of a following. Despite their regular work on new titles they actually had one “secret” title which never came out. This game is called Infernax and it was actually completed four years ago. So, where has the game been all this time? Despite Berzerk Studios doing their best to grab a publisher for it, none ever accepted due to the high level of 8-bit violence. It seems a bit silly in this day and age, but hey, developers have the right to be prudish.”

unraveledlogoGame : Unraveled

What it is : Marcus wrote: “Have you ever heard of “ship breaking?” It is the act of dismantling old, decommissioned ships. It is incredibly dangerous labor, not only while engaging in the work, but may even have long term health consequences due to toxic chemicals in the air. Many people in locations such as Bangladesh and India take these jobs because they must. Unraveled tells a story based around a family who lives and works at the local ship breaking yard. Something has happened and now the daughter is all alone. Players must assume the role of this young girl and venture forth to find her family. She won’t be alone, though. Thanks to her powerful imagination, a cute toy will come to life to accompany her.”

bosswavelogoGame : Boss Wave

What it is : Marcus wrote: “Do you like shooting up enemies in games? How about fighting big bosses? Oh, what’s your opinion on chiptune music and pixel art? If you’ve got an affinity for all those things then allow me to introduce you to Boss Wave. This game by Pachow Studios has made its Kickstarter debut and definitely has a cool factor about it after watching the trailer. The truly unique concept showcased is that music is integral to playing well. Everything is in sync with the beat, meaning you’ll want to keep up to properly avoid and shoot things.”

harmoniccrusadelogoGame : Harmonic Crusade

What it is : Marcus wrote: “In Harmonic Crusade you’re basically playing a rhythm game during battles. This is opposed to the standard of turn-based or real time fights where you select attacks, skills, etc. During a fight you’ll have to keep an eye on two “lanes” which notes will move down. As with typical rhythm titles your goal is to hit all the notes in time. Unlike most traditional games, you’re going to need to control both lanes either simulatenously or by switching back and forth. The concept sounds a bit like the multitasking of Sequence or The World Ends With You, but with a larger RPG slant. If you’d like to get a feel for the concept then there’s a web demo for Harmonic Crusade available.”

The Rest of the Campaigns :

Hot Armor : Brothers war : An arcade style tank combat game that could turn out to be ok.

Bad ass babes : A 90’s arcade style brawler with graphics that remind me of Pit Fighter.

ManagerSim : Billed as the re-birth of a legendary game.  Can’t say I’ve ever heard of it, but if you have then check it out!

PvE MOBA : Yes, that’s $2,000,000 for a game with no gameplay footage, screenshots, or concept art.

Break_In : An MMO FPS where players play either attackers or defenders.

Finding Utopia : A survival RPG that needs a bit more time in the oven.

Stairs : A survival horror game with some interesting concepts.  There’s even a demo you can try.

Asteroids HD : Marcus summed this up nicely in his article.

Mainframe : A horror filled puzzle style game with a nifty funding video, but no gameplay to show off yet.

Labyrinth the Game : This developer has been on a mission the last few weeks to get the unfundable funded.

Swipe to Kill : The Candy Crush inspired game looks interesting, but there’s too much emphasis on the game development tutorial aspect of the campaign.

Hands-up ! : $300k for a police sim with no real screenshots, and very little concrete info.

Zx8 Titan Project : Half a million bucks for a campaign with a pencil sketch that isn’t centered in the title image frame.

Sol Avenger : A cool looking Star Fox style shooter (without the rails) that just needs a campaign overhaul to do something great.

Ripped out : This weeks winner for providing the least amount of info. Congrats!

Hot Rod Garage : Strange that someone would launch this no info campaign while the Car Mechanic Sim 2015 campaign is still live.

Dungeon Saga : The disconnect between the concept artwork and single game screen is concerning.

Mortilium : It’s a crime that such a neat looking game has such a bad campaign.

Bunker Architect : A game about making a bunker in what I assume is MS Paint.

Homestication : This campaign from the guy behind the multiple Labyrinth campaigns was launched and cancelled within the span of a couple days.

Cry Havoc : An RPG from a prolific Kickstarter developer.  He’s also the guy behind Kingdom Caligula.

The Sorcerer’s Prophet : I don’t like to openly mock campaigns, but I’m really tempted on this one.  I’m not sure what the est part is, the lack of info, the stolen artwork, the single $10k backer level, or the risks section.  Let’s just move on.

Beach Bounce : A visual novel with scantily clad girls bouncing around, pretty straight forward stuff.

Happymart : A game about depression that looks to be as much of a game as it is a message; definitely worth checking out.

HEAVILY ARMED : A run and gun shooter that doesn’t require “an encyclopedia to play.”

Clive -N- Wrench : A cute platformer with some great looking cartoon graphics.

That’s it for last weeks Kickstarter campaigns.  Watch your wallets!
