Point-and-click games have made a resurgence recently thanks to the efforts of Telltale Games, Double Fine, and others. Now, two of the genre’s progenitors are returning to the medium with a title ripped from the 1980s.

Thimbleweed Park, a new project from Maniac Mansion creators Ron Gilbert and Gary Winnick, is designed to look and feel like an adventure game of that era. Just like in their first collaboration, players will switch among multiple characters as they try to solve a mystery that begins with a dead body under a bridge.

Gilbert and Winnick are seeking $375,000. Backers contributing at the $20 level and above receive copies of the game. For just five dollars more, you receive absolution for the sin of pirating Maniac Mansion and The Secret of Monkey Island as a child.

Higher tiers include digital soundtracks, boxed copies, T-shirts, and inclusion in the game. For more, check out the Kickstarter page. For more on Maniac Mansion, check out associate editor Kimberley Wallace's look back at the title.
