Like most history buffs growing up in the tail end of the 20th century, I’ve been strangely fascinated by the Cold War my whole life. And as a board game fan, 2005’s Twilight Struggle instantly struck a chord with me.. at least on paper.

A massive, sprawling, five hour simulation of Cold War politics, it looked to be everything I could ever want in a tabletop game. The problem, though, was finding a Khrushchev to my Kennedy.

I tried convincing my wife that five hours of geopolitics and dice rolling would be a fantastic way for us to spend quality time together. It did not go over well.

But where the real world fails me, Playdek is more than happy to pick up the torch. The team behind such fantastic adaptations as Summoner Wars, Lords of Waterdeep and Ascension this week announced they’d be bringing the Cold War tension of Twilight Struggle to digital devices.

Well… they want to. The game has just gone live on Kickstarter, and they’re seeking $50,000 to create iOS, Android, PC, Mac and Linux versions of the game. As of this writing, they shouldn’t have any trouble reaching that goal. They’re currently sitting at… oh wait. They reached it?

Twilight Struggle is happening. I AM EXCITE.

Somebody put in a call to Yakov Smirnoff. We’re going to need some voice work on this one.

Jim Squires is the Editor-in-Chief of Gamezebo. Everything you see passes his eyes first, so we like to think of him as "the gatekeeper of cool stuff." He likes good games, great writing, and just can't say no to a hamburger. Also, he is not a bear.
