Artizens is raising money on Kickstarter right now, and to judge by the funding activity, it looks like the Kickstarter community is as excited about the potential of this upcoming game as I am, as the project has already gathered over half of its $30,000 goal with 23 days to go.

The game looks like a side-scrolling platform gam, with shades of Shadow of the Colossus, with giant creatures to overcome by co-operative teams of players, each of whom will be able to create their own characters and gear. The gear creation here is unique, with materials for the armor and weapons gathered from the defeated monsters, and the look and feel of the objects created by…drawing them.

You’ll be able to team up with up to three players online to fight the monsters that dwell in the open, 2D world of Artizens. These creatures are created to be smart: they’ll run away when injured, fight dirty when cornered, and some can even trick you during battles.

You’ll pop into your gear workshop to make your armor and weaponry, including shields, bows, arrows, swords, or even rocket legs. The balancing mod system will allow you to create amazingly unique or even bizarre weaponry that is still useable within the game, like a massive paralyzing sword that pulls health from monsters, or a turret that sets enemies on fire but heals allies.

When you design the way your gear looks, you can import photos or use images you pull from the internet, draw the look of your armor and weapons in the shop itself, or just pull stuff from the online gaming community for Artizens. You’ll also be able to share the cool stuff you create with the other players, as well, as soon as the developers release the planned trading post in-game.

All in all, Artizens is shaping up to be a neat-looking Mac (or PC and Linux) game with some cool gameplay mechanics and social features. Be sure to head over to the Kickstarter project page to see what’s what, and watch the project video, or donate to the project at the various levels of reward.
