Wasteland beta update coming soon as original goes DRM-free on Desura

Owen S. Good is a longtime veteran of video games writing, well known for his coverage of sports and racing games.

Wasteland 2 hasn't yet set a launch date but its developers have told Kickstarter backers that the game is on course for a previously announced update to the game's beta, and its predecessor, Wasteland, is now available, DRM-free, through Desura.

The news was spread via email to backers of the project — one of the most successful in Kickstarter history — on Friday. The original Wasteland went up on Desura, for Windows PC, Mac OS and Linux machines, this weekend.

Further, manuscripts for the two novellas promised to Wasteland 2 backers, written by Michael Stackpole and Nathan Long, have been submitted and are going through editing, the project team said. They'll be made available to backers shortly.

"While the next beta update (coming soon) will not be quite as sizeable as the last one it is another significant content expansion (adding a new area) as well as UI upgrade (implementing the new barter screen)," the project team wrote in an email to backers.

Developed by InXile Entertainment, Wasteland 2 is the third-highest grossing crowd-funded video game on Kickstarter.
