Billed as the world's first wireless earbuds, The Dash offer music, fitness tracking and communication and look set to hit their $260,000 Kickstarter funding goal in under 48 hours.

Developed by Munich-based BRAGI, the headphones manage to pack a host of wearable technology and even smartphone functionality into two tiny in-the-ear buds that don't need to be linked wirelessly to a handset in order to perform.

The Dash can hold up to 1,000 tracks of music for instant playback and thanks to a number of sensors are capable of monitoring movements and vitals so they know how far the wearer has traveled, his or her heart rate, oxygen saturation and energy spent.

If that wasn't enough, when connected via Bluetooth to a smartphone, the headphones can be used for making and receiving phone calls. There's no need for a clip-on mic as they use a bone conduction microphone instead. This has the added advantage of isolating any background noise.

But perhaps most impressively of all, they can be operated via touch, thanks to a five-field capacitive sensor. It means no fumbling with a phone to control volume, accept or decline a call or access other features. And it is this functionality that means wearers in serious training can leave their phones at home.

Without a phone, the earbuds can still monitor and track fitness and performance and then that information can be downloaded to the supporting smartphone app later.

The Dash went live on Kickstarter on Monday with an ambitious funding goal of $260,000 and an early bird offer of a set of earbuds for just $179 for the first 1,000 backers. Just over a day after the campaign went live, the headphones are only $81,000 away from hitting their target.
