Allison Carenza wants to help professional child photographers like herself stop multitasking. Squeezing a toy at an infant may work for a few minutes, but not a whole shoot, and with the need of having someone’s help or having to one-hand the camera.
The Kansas Citian came up with the Looky Loo Light (pictured above) to keep kids focused on the camera and capture authentic expressions. The device fits any SLR camera, using four LED lights with light-diffusing covers to reduce reflection, three variations of patterns for the lights and a series of different sounds.
Carenza needs help taking her product to production, so she’s launching a Kickstarter, with options that include limited-edition versions of Looky Loo Light and a photo shoot with her. She hopes to raise $50,000 by March 6.

“With young children you really only get a good 20 minutes in a photo session—making the most of those minutes has always been a challenge,” Carenza said. “The Looky Loo Light keeps my hands free, keeps the child focused on the camera itself, and results in a much more natural expression.”
She presented at 1 Million Cups last summer and also received $19,000 in cash and resources by winning Dream Big America’s monthly contest in July.
