Kingdom Come: Deliverance hits Kickstarter with dungeons, not dragons

Warhorse Studios launched a Kickstarter campaign this week for Kingdom Come: Deliverance, its open-world role-playing game.

The studio hopes to raise £300,000 (about $496,890) for the first-person RPG, which it teased with a trailer in December 2013. As of this writing, the crowdfunding campaign has received £72,113 in pledges from 2,280 backers. The campaign for the game headed to Linux, Mac, Windows PC, PlayStation 4 and Xbox One will end Thursday, Feb. 20, at 4:00 p.m. ET.

Kingdom Come: Deliverance tells the story of a "humble, young blacksmith [who] loses everything to war," according to the Kickstarter page. "As he tries to fulfill the dying wish of his father, Fate drags him into the thick of a conspiracy to save a kidnapped king and stop a bloody conflict. You will wander the world, fighting as a knight, lurking in the shadows as a rogue, or using the bard's charm to persuade people to your cause."

What the game won't bring to PCs and next-gen consoles has to do with the magical, large and scaly sides of the fantasy genre.

"You will not find any dragons, half-naked Elven warriors, or wizards in Kingdom Come: Deliverance," the Kickstarter page reads. "At no point will you have to collect seven pieces of a legendary magic staff to defeat an ancient evil bent on destroying the world with an army of demons. We think there are enough such games out there.

"Think of it as Braveheart: The Game. Majestic castles, armored knights, large, open field battles, and political intrigue set in a vast, emergent world."
