In 2014, Franco Parente ran a filmmakers' dream of a Kickstarter campaign. After it was announced Churchill's Pub was changing owners, he sought funding to make a documentary about the legendary bar with the clever title Little Haiti Rock City. There was anxiety over the future of the venue that had been Miami's live-music oasis since 1979, so benefactors poured $79,345 into the project. But now, four years later, Churchill's is still standing pretty much the same as it ever was, and Little Haiti Rock City is nowhere to be seen. (Read More)

I’ve been a supporter of the South Florida music scene since the 1980′s, so when I heard the news that Churchills (our beloved shit hole) was closing – it was the end of an era. Not only to me, but to anyone who ever played its stage, heard an earth shaking show, watched its soccer games, bloodied in the mosh pit or thrown up in its fragrant bathrooms. A large chunk of my youthful memories are now held in a strangers hands. It’s unclear at this posting what direction the club will take and previous owner Dave Daniels has started a well deserved retirement. The news took many by surprise and now that Dave is stepping off the throne there have been open expressions of joyous sentimentality and downright grief. (Read More)
