John Vanderslice: Dagger Beach

August 26th - via: popmatters.com
Dagger Beachs sense of loss and experimentation makes it come across as a kind of midpoint between the Mountain Goats Get Lonely and Devendra Banharts Smokey Rolls Down Thunder Canyon. Its an album that doesnt just reward several listens, it demands them. (Read More)

John Vanderslice released Kickstarter-funded albums & stuff, going on tour (dates, MP3, video)

August 12th - via: brooklynvegan.com
To say that John Vanderslice's experiment with Kickstarter was a success is an understatement. Not only has he released both Dagger Beach (an album of all new originals) and a song-for-song cover of David Bowie's Diamond Dogs, he raised almost $80,000 and has been releasing special fan gift songs too. One of those is "Song For Clay Miller", "a song written for, and released exclusively to the 1,200 supporters of his campaign" and for a few people who buy the limited Flexi Disc version. (Read More)

John Vanderslice on Covering Bowie and Why Kickstarter Is “Just As Involved As Some Labels”

February 27th - via: flavorwire.com
Indie veteran John Vanderslice has long been a Flavorwire favorite, so our ears most definitely pricked up when we heard he was self-releasing two new albums this spring, especially since one of them is a full-length cover of David Bowie’s Diamond Dogs. The albums are both financed by a Kickstarter, which hit its $18k target within days — it was sitting at $54k when we spoke to Vanderslice yesterday, with some three weeks to go. (Read More)

Q&A: John Vanderslice on Kickstarter Success, 'Dagger Beach' and Covering David Bowie

February 22nd - via: billboard.com
With over a decade of albums on indie labels such as Barsuk and Dead Oceans behind him, San Francisco musician and Tiny Telephone studio owner John Vanderslice’s next project is going D.I.Y. To release his new album, “Dagger Beach,” and an album-length cover set of David Bowie’s 1974 LP “Diamond Dogs,” he’s turned to crowd-sourcing site Kickstarter – the buzzed-about platform that made Amanda Palmer over $1 million last year. (Read More)

John Vanderslice releasing two Kickstarter-funded albums in 2013, one being a cover of Bowie's 'Diamond Dogs'

February 21st - via: brooklynvegan.com
John Vanderslice will release two albums this year: the first is Dagger Beach, an album of all new originals; and a song-for-song cover of David Bowie's Diamond Dogs. (He's done the latter live before.) The records will be released concurrently in May and John has decided to put them out himself. (His last album, 2011's White Wilderness, came out on Dead Oceans.) He also launched a Kickstarter to fund their release (both albums are in the can) which only launched on Tuesday (2/19) but has already more than tripled his goal with 28 days left to go. (Read More)
