This has been a cold winter in the Northeast, and if you don’t happen to live in a LEED certified smart home, you’ve probably been aware of how much it’s costing to stay warm. But at least when it comes to your furnace, you have a good excuse for not monitoring fuel usage and effiency—it’s hard to do without being really geeky (usually involving a clipboard.) In fact, unlike electricity usage for which there are a wide variety of smart meters available, monitoring oil, natural gas and propane furnaces has been a strictly DIY affair. Until now.
