Kickstarter Katchup – June 30th 2013

June 30th - via: rockpapershotgun.com
Last week I was at Rezzed instead of looking at Kickstarter pages but I’ve made up for it by spending most of today browsing through projects. Thoughts of Kickstarter’s purpose have been hanging in the air (on twitter and in chatrooms that I frequent) and I have been pondering how I see the site. I have backed projects knowing that I’m essentially pre-ordering something that I assume will be released and will be as expected, based on the team’s previous work and a comfortable place in a familiar genre. But I mostly back smaller projects that I want to support and to play because they are different, risky and challenging. There’s a great deal of innovation among the nostalgia. (Read More)

Kickstart This - Nelly Cootaloot: The Fowl Fleet

June 4th - via: indiestatik.com
A blast from the pirate past is had upon this day, me hearties! Nelly Cootalot, bah, that’s a name I haven’t heard since way back in 2007 when I set sail with ‘er across the South Seas in Nelly Cootalot: Spoonbeaks Ahoy! The lass with the red hair and the County Durham colloquialisms – yes, I’ll never forget ‘er. What relevance does she have to us today, then, eh? A Kickstarter for a sequel, you say? Nelly Cootalot: The Fowl Fleet> Well, I never! (Read More)

Woah: Nelly Cootalot – The Fowl Fleet

May 29th - via: rockpapershotgun.com
Only moments after Rock, Paper, Shotgun emerged from Horace’s womb, Nelly Cootalot: Spoonbeaks Ahoy caught our eye. The 2007 AGS adventure has remained one of the favourite releases from that community, and you can still get it for free now. It’s definitely worth it – a really charming game that shows some proper adventure design chops. So I’m very pleased to see the creator is finally following it up with a full-length sequel. And, of course, a Kickstarter. (Read More)

Nelly Cootalot: The Fowl Fleet! (Alasdair Beckett-King)

May 28th - via: indiegames.com
You don't see pitch videos like the one posted above every day. Then again you don't see multi-award winning point-and-clickers like the original Nelly Cootalot every day and you certainly won't be seeing more of it if you don't hop over to Kickstarter and support Nelly Cootalot: The Fowl Fleet. It is or, well, will be a full blown and brilliantly looking sequel, featuring colourful graphics with hand-drawn backgrounds and no less than 45 (!) cell-shaded characters, the ever wonderful music of Nikolas Sideris, more than 35 locations, voice acting and a hopefully large chunk of traditional and well crafted adventure gameplay. And if the quality of the original is anything to go by I'm pretty sure this will indeed be an amazing game. (Read More)
