From Mars to Braff: The Great Kickstarter Debate of 2013
May 23rd - via: wordandfilm.com
Kickstarter, an online funding platform founded in 2009, has recently caught Hollywood’s gaze, thanks to a girl named Veronica Mars. Fans of the beloved cult series have been wishing and hoping and thinking and praying for the return of Veronica Mars, ever since the series was abruptly taken off the air after its third season in 2007. Series creator Rob Thomas and star Kristen Bell took to Kickstarter to raise $2 million for a “Veronica Mars” movie. Within twelve hours, the project surpassed its initial goal, garnering $5,702,153. Breaking Kickstarter records for not only having the most backers on a single project (91,585), the campaign is also the highest-funded movie project, as well as the fastest growing. (Read More)

Interview: Help Patrick Bateman Kill Again With ‘American Psycho: The Musical’
May 20th - via: geek-news.mtv.com
"I think people are going to be surprised," Act 4 Entertainment Vice President of Production and Development Jesse Singer says of his company's plan to bring "American Psycho" to the stage. Previously adapted for the screen in 2000 by director Mary Harron, and based on a novel by outspoken author Bret Easton Ellis, it's a chronicle of pharmaceutical and credit-fueled excess with a famously brand-obsessed yuppie, Patrick Batemen, as its antihero protagonist. 'American Psycho' creators turn to crowd-funding
May 16th - via: online.wsj.com
Duncan Sheik is part of an unusual campaign on Kickstarter: Not to get his musical "American Psycho" up and running. It's to make it killer. The Almeida Theatre in London has already agreed to mount the world stage premiere of Bret Easton Ellis' novel this winter but Sheik wants to give it a $150,000 infusion. (Read More)

FORGET ZACH BRAFF. THE AMERICAN PSYCHO MUSICAL IS THE KICKSTARTER YOU SHOULD DONATE TO.
May 7th - via: esquire.com
There's been no shortage of outrage over Zach Braff's Kickstarter campaign for Wish I Was Here, the first film since his 2004 directorial debut Garden State. But the project's most damning — if not the most hilarious — indictment actually came last year, when New York wrote about the actor-director's newly gut-renovated downtown Manhattan loft. "I had this daydream of a cozy barn in upstate New York, but floating above the city," Braff told the magazine. "Manhattan is so crazy and mayhem-y, and I wanted something peaceful." The eleventh-floor, 2,600-square-foot spread features a 360-degree view spanning the East River to New Jersey, a $6,800 cast iron tub, a $2,895 "Papa Bear" chair, snapshots of his British model girlfriend taken with a $2,300 portrait camera, and "a piano and other instruments on hand for guests to tinker with." As Marvel Comics: The Untold Story author Sean Howe so succinctly put it on Facebook: "Somebody should give this guy money." (Read More)

American Psycho The Musical' Kickstarter
May 6th - via: businessinsider.com
Bret Easton Ellis' 'American Psycho' is a cult classic in print and on film, but apparently that isn't enough, because now there's a Kickstarter for 'American Psycho The Musical.' The Kickstarter was launched by Act 4 Entertainment and the producer of the show Jesse Singer. You can watch the pitch video below, which includes thoughts from Bret Easton Ellis (of course) and Duncan Sheik (of 'Barely Breathing' fame) — he's doing the music and lyrics. (Read More)

American Psycho The Musical Gets A Kickstarter Campaign!
April 23rd - via: perezhilton.com
Bret Easton Ellis' classic novel of 80s excess and murder American Psycho has only gained in popularity over the years.
But who would have thought it would ever be a Broadway musical??
We doubt we'll get a Christian Bale shower scene, but with Duncan Sheik doing the songs and Glee alum Roberto Aguirre-Sacasa writing the book, this could be a pretty amazing show! (Read More)
Help Bring American Psycho To The Stage
April 23rd - via: gothamist.com
Cancel your reservations at Dorsia and hand that cash over to this American Psycho Kickstarter instead. While the initial run will be at London's Almeida Theatre later this year, Jesse Singer—who is producing it—told us today that they are in talks about when and where to bring it over to New York, so that will happen (and the funds from this Kickstarter—if wildly successful—will go towards that as well).
