I’ll admit something. I never liked Zelda 2, or Zelda II: The Adventure Of Link for you purists. I realize this makes me an outsider amongst gamers; and it’s a cross that I bear to this day. I saved up money for months when I heard it was coming out then headed to Circuit City the day it was released. It took me a couple hours to realize that it wasn’t going to be top down, and my 12 year old brain seethed with unquantified hate. The next morning I was back in Circuit City exchanging it for Xenophobe, a game that gave me its own share of heartbreak.
So what does this have to do with the Elliot Quest Kickstarter? As soon as I saw that it was billing itself as a spiritual successor to Zelda 2 I knew had to take a closer look. What I found was a side scrolling RPG adventure that’s equal parts sweet, depressing, and exhilarating. You play Elliot, a man plagued with the anguish of a missing wife, a nightmarish illness that’s taking over his body, and the curse of invincibility. As you guide Elliot in his quest to find a cure you’ll explore a variety of locales, fight some impressive bosses, customize Elliot’s abilities, and reach one of three unique endings; all the while enjoying the games’ compelling soundtrack.
