A remake of the classic platformer game James Pond has been put on Kickstarter.

The Gameware produced title has been put on the crowd-funding website, asking for £100,000 by October 7 in order to fund development.

Jeremy Cooke, CEO of Gameware, said: "22 years ago, James Pond hit our consoles and has never really left our thoughts.

"What we want to do, is to bring back Pond. Collect everything together that made Pond what it is, and produce a game that not only embodies everything great about the previous games, but also acknowledges the not-so-great stuff and delivers it with updated graphics sound and interfaces."

So far the title is only being made for PC, but with additional funding Gameware intends to make ports of the game for iOS and Android. Console versions could also land on PS3, PS4, PS Vita, Xbox 360 and Nintendo 3DS, as well as Ouya and Linux.

Developers have already acquired the James Pond licence and are "bringing the licence back to the independents", adding that this allows them to produce the game fans want to see.

Independent publisher Systems 3 recently announced that they are developing James Pond: Codename Robocod, the 1991 sequel to the original.
