BOOM or DOOM: A Documentary Chronicling Tabletop Games From Funding To Delivery

BOOM or DOOM is a documentary currently crowdfunding on Kickstarter that aims to put an interesting spin on the crowdfunded documentary model.

See, project creators Sean and Alan plan on using Kickstarter to raise funds for an upcoming party game, entitled Two Rooms and a Broom. Ahead of that project, the team is launching a Kickstarter for a documentary about the process of taking the game from funding to reality.

Yes, they’re using Kickstarter to fund a documentary about their other Kickstarter. I love this.

They have already begun shooting footage for the film because, well, it can’t all be about them. They’ve reached out to others in the Tabletop Gaming world and the crowdfunding ecosystem ahead of their own campaign. The film is expected to be released in 2014 and will be shown online for free.

Sean and Alan just started a tabletop game company called Tuesday Knight Games. But by trade, Alan is a college professor and Sean is a professional video editor and graphic designer. At heart, we’re both geeky dudes that occasionally swear. We are filming our efforts to kickstart our gaming dreams. We’re totally not afraid of hard work and we’re doing our research. We want to learn exactly what it takes to have a successful Kickstarter campaign, and we want to share our experience with the world, for free!

The team has a long list of stretch goals to take them from their current funding of about $2,500 on up to $6,000 and beyond. The low $2,000 goal for the campaign was met in around 24 hours according to the team’s Facebook fan page.
