SnoopWall: Protecting You from CyberSpies

A Nashua start-up wants to raise $10,000 to help you guard against cyber criminals, via Kickstarter.

SnoopWall is a program for Smartphone or tablet that will block cyber intrusion and alert users in real-time of dangerous applications and programs, and help web users "reclaim their privacy,"  according to project inventor Gary Miliefsky, of Nashua.

He has launched a Kickstarter fundraising campaign in order to get his business off the ground.

According to SnoopWall bullet points, this program is not a firewall, but rather a program that returns control of your device to you, the user. Miliefsky says those who would benefit from SnoopWall include:

  • Those who fidget when your device asks you to "trust" an application. (Gee...I'm not sure this application looks safe...but I REALLY want to play this game on my phone).
  • Those who often lie awake at night wondering why simple applications need your GPS location and access to your microphone, webcam, social media profiles, etc.
  • Those who watch the news and know that cybercrime is skyrocketing and antivirus software can't keep up.
  • Those who live in the 21st century. ("I'd love to get with the times and give up my go-phone, but the thought of being spied on scares me...").

Miliefsky is kind of a big deal in the world of cybersecurity, as a founding member of the U.S. Department of Homeland Security and Founder and CEO of NetClarity Inc.

Less known: He enjoys Pearl Jam, was lead singer in a high school band, and likes traveling to exotic islands.
