Spinpod Aims to Improve Your Panoramic Photos and Motion Time-Lapse Videos

Just a few days old, a new Kickstarter project called “Spinpod” is aiming to improve your panoramic photos and videos through the use of a spinning pod designed for smaller cameras such as smartphones, GoPros and so forth.

Its job: help you stabilize the camera while you take a panoramic photo, or perhaps even a dynamic motion time-lapse video. The pod also doubles as a speaker dock for the times when you’re not using it for its primary purpose.

Getting it going requires inserting your camera into the 2.5 inch wide slot (a 1/4-20 threaded insert is also available for mounting other cameras and tripods), spinning the knob to lock the device in place (which also turns the unit on), and choosing the mode and timer options via capacitive touch controls on the top surface of the device.

This highly portable device claims to be useful for perfectly stitched panoramas, given its ability to rotate the camera near its axis on a stable platform. And for the users who are into motion time-lapse videos, the Spinpod can be set to rotate ~0.06 degrees every 0.5, 1, 2, 5 or 10 seconds.

The Spinpod’s built-in rechargeable battery is good for 10 hours of panorama mode, and 100 hours in time-lapse mode.

You can learn more about this project at the Spinpod Kickstarter page. Getting your own Spinpod will run you anywhere between $60 and $175, depending on the features you’re looking for and how soon you want to have the device in hand.
