Coney Island’s fleshy fish fantasy is bound for reality.

Organizers of Brooklyn’s Mermaid Parade are now only about $2,000 shy of reaching their goal and putting on the parade that’s expected to draw as many as 750,000 spectators.

The group’s month-long Kickstarter campaign has brought in over $97,000 – all generated from more than 2,200 parade goers.

“It doesn’t surprise me, but it delights me,” said Coney Island USA director and founder Dick Zigun. “Those people are the saviors of the parade.”

Zigun and other organizers originally said they were drowning in so much Hurricane Sandy debt they couldn’t put on the June 22 parade.

Organizers then set up the Kickstarter campaign which drew in $27,000 on its first day. The fundraising effort closes June 3.

Even the parade’s main fundraiser — the Mermaid Ball — has locked up a venue and will be officially announced after the group crosses the $100,000 threshold.

“We’re seriously planning the parade but it still has to hit 100 percent,” said Zigun. “I can’t say it’s a done deal yet but all indications are that it’s a green light.”
