Bayside-Based Writer Launches Fundraiser To Screen Film

BAYSIDE, QUEENS — A writer from Bayside launched a fundraiser on Wednesday to help screen and stream her full-length film.
Meagan Meehan, 35, started a Kickstarter campaign along with the film’s director Christine Stoddard to get help screening “Her Garden,” an experimental film about mental illness, mermaids, and love.
“Christine Stoddard invited me to write a narration for this project based on old film footage she had,” Meehan told Patch. “ It featured a lot of water and inner-city scenes so, when I watched it for the first time, the concept of placing a delusional mermaid-obsessed character in an impoverished urban community somehow occurred to me.”

The film is scheduled to be screened at the FiveMyles gallery in Brooklyn on March 12. The project is a production by Quail Bell Press & Productions, an arts and entertainment company based in Brooklyn.
“We are also hopeful that some museums are willing to feature it in their exhibitions, perhaps playing on a loop each day,” Meehan said.

The team is hoping to raise $8,000 in a month to bring the film to audiences through public screenings, film festival submissions, an online Zoom screening, a video-on-demand option, and visits to public grade schools and colleges.
