Guitar Gear Gems

This week on Guitar Gear Gems we check out two new interesting guitar designs and an all new boutique 50’s American Tweed style overdrive pedal. The guitars are both certainly something different, and one of them, the Ghostron Traisia, I’m not quite so sure about the actual design. Though I think its aesthetic will certainly divide opinions amongst guitarists.

Ghostron Traisia

The Ghostron Traisia is billed as an ergonomic design with a simple aesthetic and is currently attempting to launch via a Kickstarter campaign. The guitar’s design is the result of a collaboration between a Japanese design company and craftsmen, apparently. I must say that personally, I find it really ugly and that already puts me off the design, without even hearing it.

Posture

Supposedly, they analysed the playing posture of more than 100 guitarists and this was the result. This design they claim offers the best posture for musical whether seated or playing in a standing position. They are offering the Ghostron Traisia in 16 colour combinations for the body, pickguard and pickup covers, for a grand total of 192 different designs! Though, I really think they perhaps should have taken more time on the main guitar design, as it is not a looker.

Cordoba Stage

If you have ever been looking for an acoustic guitar in the low to medium price point, then you should check out US guitar manufacturer Cordoba Guitars. The controls consist of Volume, EQ, and Body Blend knobs and the onboard the Stage Pickup System allows guitarists to dial in their preferred acoustic tone.

Thinline acoustic

They belong to the Guild Group and have now presented a thin nylon electro acoustic guitar with the Stage, which is supposed to be particularly suitable for the stage, without sacrificing the characteristic nylon sound.

LPD Pedals Fifty5 Overdrive

The LPD Pedals Fifty5 Overdrive offers what they describe as 50’s American Tweed style tones and it uses an all-analogue design to do so. The pedal has controls which include Level, Drive and Tone knobs, plus Voice and HDRM toggle switches.

Interactive Controls

That Voice toggle is very interactive and works with the Tone control offering more or less low mids and bass. Then the HDRM toggle gives you more high and low headroom. Again this control is interactive and works in conjunction with the Drive control to give you more or less power amp drive. As ever with modern pedals, this overdrive is true-bypass and you can unit from a standard 9 V power supply.

MSRP – USD 199.99

At least Ghostron is trying to develop something original, not yet another in the endless tedious parade of Strat/Tele/LesPaul/ SG clones or overpriced signature guitars.

For showing a bit of originality the company should be praised, not criticised for its design being ‘ugly’.

Originality can still be unpleasing to the eye. I think it looks like a mess visually, but like I said in the article above, I am sure it will divide opinion.
