Rayless Blade Kickstarter ongoing, promises open-world RPG

It’s that time again, folks. Kickstarter time; the sort of occasion that can either reap abject disappointment or an unexpected gem of a game. Dependent entirely on the tenacity of the developer, pledging one’s cash to these projects is very much one of those 50-50 things. Still, that’s no reason to dismiss the fact that a lot of the time, they look bloody cool as all getout, and Kong Studio’s Rayless Blade is another example. The trailer shows off a stylish, pixel-art RPG that promises open-world exploration and an engaging story. And the pricetag? A cool $15,000. In this day and age, that there’s peanuts.

Per GamesPress, “Rayless Blade is an open world, pixel art RPG with JRPG style turn combat and UNDERTALE style combat.” That’s a bold marketing choice. Just openly acknowledge who you’re ripping off. “While roaming the massive hi-bit pixel art world inspired by Hyper Light Drifter, you’ll make friends, enemies, have to solve puzzles, and defeat difficult enemies in order to progress.”

“But you won’t have to do it alone,” they clarify. “You’ll encounter many individuals and classes that can be recruited to your team to help you fight and explore, such as: Dark Knight, Magic Knight, Strider, Engineer, Dragon Slayer, and Rebounder, so assembling your team is strategic in nature.” I can only assume Rebounder is very good at getting over toxic relationships. As you progress, you “will discover hidden and randomized loot by solving puzzles, searching obscured areas, and defeating enemies.” In other words, business as ushe for the genre; but it’s the gorgeous style that’s got heads turning.

Ah. King of all you survey. All 32 bits of it.

At present, Rayless Blade has raised just shy of $6,500 – almost half of its goal, with 24 days remaining. I’d wager they’re probably going to make it, but just in case, why not pop over and slip them a dollar or two? If you’re interested in the game at all, that is.

Will you be donating to the Kickstarter? Are you at all enamoured by Rayless Blade? Let us know!
