Upcoming farming sim Coral Island is having a pretty great time on Kickstarter. The project was fully funded in under 36 hours, has been smashing its stretch goals one after the other, and has raised more than 10 times the amount its devs originally asked for.

How well is Coral Island doing on Kickstarter?

The first nine stretch goals for Coral Island have been met with thirteen days still left to go on the campaign. These include a console and Switch port, a multiplayer mode, mod support, and several extra gameplay features. The latest stretch goal - beach and festival outfits for twenty NPCs in the game - was funded earlier today. If the game continues at its current pace, you can expect the next goal - four more dateable NPCs - to be met as well.

Other stretch goals include four new NPCs, an upgrade to the Merfolk Village (it'll become a kingdom if the goal is met), and an entirely new biome to explore at the endgame. If you're looking to fund Coral Island, you've got until March 3rd to do it. The developers have already added an entirely new set of stretch goals to Coral Island's Kickstarter campaign after the original set were all funded with more than half of the campaign left to go. It's looking likely that Coral Island will continue to capture backers' hearts well into 2021, so don't be surprised if the devs need to come up with yet another set of stretch goals.

What is Coral Island?

Coral Island is a farming sim developed by Indonesian studio Stairway Games. It's inspired by classic sims like Harvest Moon and has you growing crops, nurturing animals, and befriending local islanders. Unlike other farming sims, Coral Island also has a strong environmental message; you can help clean up the ocean floor by getting rid of garbage and standing in opposition to the dastardly Pufferfish Drilling Corp. Stairway says it's aiming to include a more diverse cast than most farming sims in Coral Island, and that its Southeast Asian-inspired world and environmental message will set it apart from other games of its ilk.

Coral Island sets itself apart from other farming sims with a strong environmental message and diverse cast.

Naturally, you'll be able to design your farm and customize your home. There are plenty of bugs to catch, locations to visit, and NPCs to meet, too. You'll be able to take on projects from local residents, take part in festivals, and embark on quests to delve deep into dungeons complete with rewards and their own storylines. All in all, Coral Island is looking like a very enticing, fully-featured farming sim that's perfect for these times. Oh, and of course, you can have a pet, which you can cuddle to your heart's content.

Coral Island's Kickstarter ends on March 3rd. It's been fully funded, and the devs are intending to release the game's first alpha in June this year. Early Access will follow in Q4 2021, with a full release coming in Q4 2022. You can check out the game's official FAQ for more answers before you take the plunge. If you're a big Stardew Valley fan, this looks like it'll be a must-buy. We'll bring you more on this game as we get it, so stay tuned.
