A new Kickstarter project for a game named Chrono Sword promises to deliver an experience as if "Hyper Light Drifter and Dark Souls had a baby." Chrono Sword is a pixel art Souls-like with an isometric camera from developer 21th Century Ducks. The team is asking for $50,000 in backing on Kickstarter for Chrono Sword, and is already 2/3 of the way to its goal. If successful, 21th Century Ducks expects to release Chrono Sword in November 2021.

The premise of Chrono Sword is certainly interesting. Protagonist Aenor is a time traveler – befitting its namesake, Chrono Trigger – with a skilled mentor named Glendyn. On a mission through time, Aenor meets a young version of Glendyn. Returning to the present, Aenor discovers that her chance meeting has changed everything and the world has fallen to darkness. Now it's up Aenor to travel between the past and present to discover what's gone wrong and how she might fix it.

Gameplay-wise, Chrono Sword features a classic sort of dungeon crawling hack and slash style of action. Players will explore a large non-linear world with zero loading times, discovering weapons, runes, and more. Befitting a Souls-like, there will be giant monsters to contend with, as well as many secrets to uncover. 21th Century Ducks says it's targeting 20 hours of gameplay, so this indie game will definitely be larger than most.

21th Century Ducks has lofty aspirations for Chrono Sword. With its $50,000 in backing, the studio plans to release Chrono Sword on PC, PS5, Xbox Series X/S, and Nintendo Switch. 21th Century Ducks has previously released Timing Hero, a highly-rated RPG on mobile devices, as well as Super Pixel Racers, a Rally-X-inspired arcade game on PC. Chrono Sword is a much larger project overall, but one 21th Century Ducks is clearly confident in delivering.

Chrono Sword is planned for release late 2021 for PC, PS5, Switch, and Xbox Series X/S.
