Sci-fi visual novel to feature Pinoy voice actor if it meets its Kickstart stretch goal

A Kickstarter campaign for the sci-fi visual novel “Solar Echoes: The Star Legation” aims to add professional voice work to the game, meaning a Pinoy voice actor could be bringing the game’s protagonist to life.

A free “Solar Echoes: The Star Legation” demo is already available on Steam, where American developer Corefun Studios, LLC describes the game as “a choice-driven Sci-Fi Visual Novel game with RPG elements."

Achieving the Kickstarter campaign’s base funding goal of $4,500 USD will allow voice actors Katie Otten and Sayaka Mashiro to fully voice two of its main characters, Sarah Carter and Kaori Tanaka, respectively.

Achieving the $7,000 USD stretch goal, however, will enable Filipino voice actor Josh Portillo to partially voice Trey Donovan, the player-controlled protagonist of the story.

“The first stretch goal of the game adds voice acting for Trey in all the private conversations with Sarah and Kaori,” says the Kickstarter campaign, adding, “voice acting will enhance the intimacy of these moments by creating a deeper, more immersive and emotional experience.”

Unity in fractured times

On Twitter, Josh said “Solar Echoes: The Star Legation” is about “bringing the universe together during a time of crisis.”

As Trey Donovan, you begin your journey across the stars as the only human representative aboard the starship Concordant. To succeed in your diplomatic mission, you’ll have to build a crew of diverse aliens and convince the universe’s disparate races to join the Interstellar Union.

Players can expect to explore various extrasolar worlds, encounter alien civilizations, and make choices that can drastically affect the outcome of your mission—from peace among the stars to massive interstellar war.

“Solar Echoes: The Star Legation” will include over 20 hours of gameplay, 32 possible endings, optional romance story routes, optional combat, and RPG-style character design complete with skill choices. It will also feature over 75 minutes of original music composed by game designer and Corefun Studios, LLC founder Andy Mitchell.

Portillo is excited to voice Trey Donovan.

“Besides him being a mix between Han Solo and Star Lord, what I love about (Trey) is his determination,” said Portillo.

“With all the odds stacked against him, Trey tries to do the unthinkable and bring peace to the universe—which I think is a character we can all get behind, especially now.”

Portillo has voiced characters in a variety of audio dramas, animations, and video games. He portrays the character “Boss” in “Once More,” a successfully Kickstarted adventure and romance visual novel featuring the art of Pinoy artist Lawnielle. — LA, GMA News
