Loodo Ninja – 6 Great Board Games to Back on Kickstarter This September

Hello friends! There’s so much great stuff on Kickstarter right now that board game lovers might feel overwhelmed. Sequels, new games by beloved creators and promising debuts. Having problems with deciding what to back? Want to know what’s hot on KS right now? Let’s go!

7th Citadel

It’s finally here. A spiritual successor to 7th Continent again made by none other than Ludovic Roudy and Bruno Sautter – guys who also got a Spiel Des Jahres award in 2019 for Just One.

For those who haven’t had the chance to play the previous game: 7th Citadel is an 1-4 player adventure-focused card game featuring special square cards that, when slowly unfolded, create a map you venture through. You never really know what you’ll discover and there are some unexpected encounters. The system is incredibly innovative and merges adventure games with oldschool gamebooks and the entire experience is immersive and addictive as hell.

7th Citadel doesn’t seem to be just a spiritual successor. The game adds tons of new features: from a new fantasy dystopian world, new approach to character creation, a big focus on building the titular citadel and supposedly less focus on the survival aspect (which to be honest was sometimes too frustrating in 7th Continent). Probably my top pick this month, especially at €69.

Dinosaur World + Dinosaur Island: Rawr ‘n Write

Dinosaur Island was a huge KS success and here we have not one but two new games following its legacy. Dinosaur Island: Rawr ‘n Write makes the original game switch into the roll and write genre while still retaining most of its gameplay aspects.

Dinosaur World on the other hand is a whole new game set in the same universe. The action takes place 10 years later. Attractions are now represented by hexagons, dinosaurs can eat your guests or go on a rampage and there seems to be much more gameplay depth in general. Judging from how good and popular the previous game was, this one seems like a no brainer for euro game fans unless you have enough dinosaurs on your shelves already.

  Machina Arcana ~ To Eternity

One of my personal favourite co-op games is back with its third edition including plenty of ruleset updates and QoL improvements. And that’s not all! The campaign features a brand new expansion called “To Eternity”. There’s plenty of new stuff here from Eternity Chapter Tiles, that change the existing areas, to a whole set of new scenarios for you and your group to tackle.

  Cascadia

I’ve only received Calico this week and I’m already in love with it. The mechanics click and the artstyle makes it even better. Meanwhile Flatout Games has already launched a new project on Kickstarter and it also looks quite tempting.

We’re dealing with animals again, but much less domesticated than Calico’s felines. Cascadia is a tile placement game about wildlife. Each player creates their own area from tiles available on the market and then adds corresponding animals that can live in them. The game looks really pretty and costs $29 which is pretty insane considering most prices on Kickstarter nowadays. This edition also includes some KS only promo cards.

  Streets

And last but not least: a game by Haakon Hoel Gaarder, the designer and artist who created Villagers. Like its predecessor, Streets is again a city builder. The game features plenty of various tiles with houses, parks, offices, malls – each having its own value.
You expand the city with other players. Colorful meeples represent major groups of people that the city will cater to: hipsters, parents, shoppers or tourists. Your goal is to attract them to your own buildings and profit from them. The game looks colorful and minimalistic with plenty of charm and humour added to the mix.
