Icy North Games is trying to avoid the hand of Fate once again, as the indie video game studio recently announced the second Kickstarter campaign for their open-world MMORPG Past Fate. Their goal for this run is set at $25,000 and ends on August 22nd of this year.

Icy North Games is based in (fittingly) Helsinki, Finland, and was established in the summer of 2018. Later that year they released their first game, Dread of Laughter, a first-person survival horror game where you play as Catheryn Barnett as she is being hunted by a serial killer. Dread of Laughter was successfully funded through Kickstarter with $846 towards a $500 goal and is available for PC (Steam), Xbox, and PS4.

Past Fate’s first Kickstarter ran during December of 2019, but only garnered $897 of its $15,000 goal. The second Kickstarter run set off on July 23rd, and as of this writing has had $2,384 pledged toward it with 24 days remaining. In a welcome message posted with the second campaign, Icy North devs say they have learned a great deal from and since the first campaign, and they come into this second one highly motivated and with an abundantly improved product.

ICYMI, Past Fate is an open-world fantasy MMORPG set in the savage world of Nendhir, with the focus of gameplay sighted on giving players an extensive amount of freedom. You will be able to seek out and receive quests from various NPCs, or you can strike out freely to seek out your own quests and adventures by simply exploring Nendhir. The game description states you’ll be able to build your own ship, sail treacherous seas, and travel to entirely new islands and other continents. There’s even mention of PvE and PvP naval combat, along with the option of recruiting your own ship crew.

Past Fate also comes with some standard fare fantasy MMORPG elements, including five playable classes (Mage, Necromancer, Pirate, Priest, and Warrior), each with three specialization options. The game’s skill-based combat system will encompass 1v1 and 3v3 arenas, battlegrounds, conquest zones, dungeons, raids, and world bosses. You’ll be able to choose between two factions to ally with - Morsath or Valfalk - and hire and train mercenaries to help you defend your faction’s lands.

Icy North has a live Past Fate alpha server online, which will run until the end of the Kickstarter campaign. The studio adds that if the campaign is successful this time, they expect the game to officially launch in late 2022.
