It's been a busy week in Kickstarter land for tabletop games. This follows the news that while overall projects are down, funding for board games increased dramatically.

First up is an interesting take on the RPG genre that sees the group of adventurers seeking out monsters to look after them, rather than kill them. Monster Care Squad RPG is over 4x funded with 23 days to go. The game takes place in a ghibli inspired universe and the concept-art that has been shown so far looks amazing. You can find out more about by visiting the Monster Care Squad RPG page.

Pirate themed Dead Reckoning from AEG was funded within 15 minutes and is currently sitting at over 5x funded. The showstopper has to be the 3D pirate ship that not just looks great, but is a core component in combat. Acting as a dice tower, the "cinematic Broadsides Battle System" resolve conflict quickly. Catapult Kingdoms reminds me of a game I used to play as a kid called Crossbows and Catapults. Both featured floor-based combat and firing projectiles at each other's castle and troops. Unsurprisingly, this game is popular and is currently 11x over their initial funding request. The stretch goals are also mounting up and will provide additional blocks to build your fortress. Visit the Catapult Kingdoms page to find out more.

The popularity and interest for tabletop and board games on Kickstarter show no signs of stopping. This is a small selection of the many projects that are running at the moment. The usual disclaimer should apply that Kickstarter is a funding platform where you pledge to support a creator as they try to realize their dreams. There is no guarantee and you are not pre-ordering a product. There is no guarantee that funder projects will deliver upon their promises. With said, many of the projects do deliver and it can be a great way to get new games that would not ordinarily hit the game store's shelves.
