The tabletop roleplaying game news and review website EN World has launched a drive for the Mythological Figures & Maleficent Monsters for 5th Edition sourcebook on Kickstarter. The sourcebook will be a hardcover tome presenting a vast array of creatures from myth, legend, fable, and folklore.
The Mythological Figures & Maleficent Monsters Kickstarter is scheduled to run until July 31st and has a goal of $6,151. It took about 15 minutes for it to meet its goal and become fully funded.
According to the Kickstarter page, the sourcebook will include over 100 figures and creatures from fiction and fantasy in its 235 full-color pages, all designed to fit into the 5th edition of the world’s oldest roleplaying game. James M. Ward, the author of the original Deities & Demigods sourcebook published in 1980 for TSR, Inc., will have a foreword included with this sourcebook.
A sampling of the legendary figures that will be found within the sourcebook includes Dracula, Dr. Jekyll/Mr. Hyde, Robin Hood, Baba Yaga, Achilles, Boudica, Lucifer, Thor Odinson, and even Santa Claus and the Easter Bunny. A host of frightful beings will have a presence, as well, including such dreadful characters as Cthulhu, Cerberus, Blackbeard, and Rasputin. The sourcebook will also furnish over 30 new magical items, including such notable artifacts as Excalibur, Mjölnir, the Nautilus, and more.
The bulk of the sourcebook’s content is derived from the weekly EN World column Mythological Figures written by Mike Myler, and which debuted in March 2018. Myler crafted many of these entries in his column as NPCs, complete with stat blocks, classes, and ability scores. The sourcebook simply compiles those weekly entries into a single tome with added art.
An entire party of tabletop RPG adventurers has been called forth to assist in the creation of this magnificent sourcebook. Russ 'Morrus' Morrissey, the creator of EN World and the ENnies, is lending his skills to help create the sourcebook. A number of “expert cultural consultants” are contributing to the sourcebook’s creation, including Sachiko Burton, Heba Elsherief, Mehr Husain, Daniel Kwan, and David Pena.
The Masterclass Codex is included with this kickstarter. The Codex is a sourcebook of 16 additional classes compatible with the 5th edition that was made possible by another successful EN World kickstarter campaign in 2019. The classes found in the Codex include the cardcaster, bloodweaver, lodestar, savant, and more.
A Deluxe Collector’s Gift Set with both the Mythological Figures & Maleficent Monsters and The Masterclass Codex is being offered as a pledge goal. They will have faux-leather covers and will only have a single printing run of them made, so if you want them, you better make your pledge quickly.
