Kradia: Wild Hunt Festival is a new JRPG board game fresh on the market. First launched on Kickstarter, the project reached its goal in less than four hours.
Kradia: Wild Hunt Festival is a board game by Chinese-Japanese design studio Liner Note. In addition to each unique playable character, the game places emphasis class-based combat. Anyone familiar with the Dungeons and Dragons tabletop should feel right at home.
How Things Work
If you want to invite people over to play, the game is ideal for a group of four. In addition, the title also offers players the option to go solo. The title is said to be a mix between Monster Hunter, Final Fantasy, and Grandia.
Players can tailor their play style based on assigned character roles: Attacker, Healer, defender. Each role also has an associated job, such as Paladin, Geomancer, or Trobairitz. Each Kradia character has a set of combat statistics, their own strengths/weaknesses, and a variety of special skills.
The game has a total of 12 bosses to defeat, but no two battles are the same. Each boss comes with their own set of tactics and skills, driving players to strategize.
Kradia: Wild Hunt Game Modes
Kradia: Wild Hunt Festival offers players two different methods of play. Story Mode offers players a fleshed-out story over time, while Challenge Mode gives players the option of a quick game. Here are a few more key differences between each mode:
Story Mode –
- Campaign-style character progression
- Start from Level 1 and take on many bosses
- Narrative text read after each encounter, dives into Kradia story and character backgrounds
Challenge Mode –
- Streamlined for quick play
- Characters begin at Level 4
- Fight against one super-powered boss
