Creators Jeff Lemire, Matt Kindt, and David Rubin have announced a new graphic novel, Cosmic Detective. The 168-page book is being funded through a Kickstarter, which launched today and runs through 9 AM Pacific on June 3rd.

Cosmic Detective follows an investigation into the murder of a god, and the repercussions the crime has on the fabric of reality, with the title character working both to solve the crime and protect the world from disaster.

Lemire and Kindt have both worked with Rubin in the past, but this is the first time all three of them have teamed up. Rubin illustrated the Black Hammer spin-off Sherlock Frankenstein & The Legion of Evil with Lemire, as well as three Ether miniseries with Kindt. Kindt has also dabbled in Lemire’s Black Hammer universe, co-writing the Black Hammer ’45 miniseries with Ray FawkesCosmic Detective is the first project Lemire and Kindt have written together.

Rewards for the Kickstarter are fairly basic for right now. A digital edition of Cosmic Detective can be had for $10, while $40 gets backers an oversized hardcover edition of the book. Most interestingly, a pledge of $48 will net you the hardcover plus a set of playing cards featuring character art by Rubin. It seems likely more rewards will follow, as the campaign page says part of the reason the creators brought this book to Kickstarter was so they could “create cool extras that we could not do with a traditional publisher.”
