2 Monumental Upcoming Kickstarter Board Games

Ready for some more previews today? Let’s take a look at 2 really big and monumental games coming in the nearest future.

Frosthaven – March 24th

Months pass and Gloomhaven still remains the number one game on BGG. Some argue it doesn’t deserve that spot, but countless fans (including us) keep gushing over it and have been hungry for more for quite a while. Players who have completed all 95 scenarios are asking for expansions and sequels to their beloved legacy game.Their pleas must have been heard because soon we’ll not only be getting a new, shorter edition of Gloomhaven (“Jaws of the Lion”) but also a completely new and huge campaign called Frosthaven – often dubbed as the sequel to the original title. The new game is completely standalone but takes place in the very same world.

Instead of Gloomhaven and its surrounding areas that we’ve thoroughly explored, the action will start in a city named White Oak, located far away in the north. Like you’d expect the conditions aren’t too friendly, especially with various beastly and mechanical monstrosities lurking in the region and scheming some evil plots.

The game is going to be colossal. We already know about 100 scenarios linked together into one, epic, non-linear campaign. There will also be much more to do between them than in Gloomhaven. You’ll control over how the new titular city develops and activate various events that alter the world and the challenges it poses. Another interesting innovation is the addition of outdoor combat and 16 new classes, with older ones remaining compatible with the new game.

Monuments – March 2020

Wonders of the ancient world have been present in most civilization-style games from Through The Ages to 7 Wonders. Assembling them always grants huge bonuses or is one of the victory conditions. In March we’re going to see another game where ancient wonders play a key role and this time… we’ll assemble them ourselves.

Monuments, developed by Keep Exploring Games is a civilization game where players need to complete the titular buildings to win. All of them are represented by plastic miniatures, each consisting of 5 floors that you progressively add through the game. Monuments is aimed at 2-4 players, but an expansion will allow 2 more for a total of 6. The game is supposed to be much faster than others in this genre and last 30 minutes per player.

Each turn everybody plays a card out of a hand of 10 and takes an action described on it  – from populating to producing. Alternatively, a player can take the discarded cards and wait one turn “recharging”. Building a new floor for your monument always has some prerequisites like conquering a set number of areas, so you need to govern your nation properly if you want to ever finish the legendary structure.

Considering its length and the creative way of using the wonder minis, we’re really excited for Monuments and can’t wait what we’ll see on the official Kickstarter campaign.
