The Wonderful 101 is tearing through Kickstarter goals and adding more

The Wonderful 101: Remastered has raised $1.5 million, so Platinum keeps adding stretch goals

Perhaps predictably, the modern remaster of the Platinum classic The Wonderful 101 was Kickstarter rocket fuel the moment it launched, hitting its initial (and modest) goal of just under $50,000 USD within minutes of going live. Now sitting at $1.5 million (£1.16m), the Kickstarter has hit several stretch goals and Platinum has added more.

For us, the key stretch goal was $250,000, which guarantees a Steam version of the game, which to date has only appeared on the Wii U. Hitting the $1.5 million mark means the remaster will also include Luka’s First Mission, a “2D side-scrolling adventure starring a young hero.”

Platinum Games has added two new goals, now that eager fans have gone through the initial ones. At $1.75 million (£1.38m), the game will include a remixed soundtrack, and at $2 million (£1.56m), they’ll add Luka’s Second Adventure.

According to the latest campaign update, Luka is “a boy who plays a very important role in The Wonderful 101: Remastered,” and one of his teachers at Blossom City Elementary School is Will Wedgewood – who fans know as Wonder-Red from the main game.

In Luka’s First Mission, players will learn why Luka hates the Wonderful 100, which Platinum says has a “completely different style” from the main game.

The Wonderful 101 is a bit of an odd duck in Platinum’s catalogue, which includes games heavy on character action like Nier: Automata, Bayonetta, and Metal Gear Rising: Revengeance. Here, you’ll be playing a whole gang of superheroes rather than a single character, and by gathering more and more heroes you’re able to morph into larger, more powerful objects called unite morphs.

You’ll need these to defeat the alien Geathjerk Federation, which is busy invading earth for the third time.

Platinum says the game should be ready for launch in April.
