Platinum Games adds new stretch goals as The Wonderful 101: Remastered Kickstarter exceeds $1.5m

"Please keep cheering on The Wonderful 101: Remastered! Thank you!"

The Wonderful 101: Remastered's Kickstarter campaign has been so successful, it's smashed its $1.5 million (£1.16m) stretch goal, prompting Platinum Games to add even more goals.

Platinum Games exceeded its funding challenge for The Wonderful 101: Remastered less than four hours into its Kickstarter campaign, meaning it is now coming to PC, PlayStation 4, and Nintendo Switch.

As Matt described at the time, The Wonderful 101: Remastered sees Platinum's 2013 Wii U oddity - "a vibrantly hued action-adventure in which players help an ever-expanding throng of morphing superheroes save the city" - getting the update treatment on modern platforms.

Now we'll also get a "brand new 2D side-scrolling adventure" action spin-off game in which you'll play as Luka.

"Luka is a boy who plays a very important role in The Wonderful 101: Remastered," the Kickstarter campaign states. "Will Wedgewood, AKA Wonder-Red, is a teacher at Blossom City Elementary School when he isn't fighting evil. Luka is one of the students in his class, and also one of the school's biggest mischief-makers.

"Of course, Luka doesn't know that his teacher is actually Wonder-Red. And he hates the Wonderful 100 due to a certain reason, despite the fact that they're heroes who protect the Earth. Why does he hate them? You'll have to play the game and enjoy the story to find out!"

As part of this update, two new stretch goals have now also been added, including a remix soundtrack and a second mission for Luka should funding hit $2 million.

"Achieving this stretch goal has given us the chance to work on Luka's First Mission - but wait! There's more!" wrote director Hideki Kamiya. "Luka's Second Mission has been revealed, which will allow us to work on a brand new adventure featuring Luka. Of course, whether or not we actually get to create it is all up to you.

"Please keep cheering on The Wonderful 101: Remastered! Thank you!"

Speaking to Eurogamer, Wonderful 101 director Hideki Kamiya said: "In terms of the contents, it's one of our larger games, so we're happy with how it is. It's not the case that we want to add more content - we just want to make it more user-friendly...I've got a list of the things I've always wanted to change that I wasn't quite satisfied with in the original. Being able to revisit the game has allowed us to make those fine-tuned adjustments."
