4 Upcoming Kickstarter Board Games – February and March 2020

More upcoming Kickstarter board game previews coming your way! Today we’re focusing on titles launching as soon as February and March 2020.

Wonderland’s War – February 11th

The long wait for Wonderland’s War is finally over. The campaign for the newest game by Druid City Games and Skybound Games launches next Tuesday. The game takes us to a world known from the books by Lewis Carroll, except it’s darker, more insane and filled with chaos.

Each game of Wonderland’s War starts in an innocent manner. Players sit together and enjoy their tea at Mad Hatter’s well known place. Despite that, each of them is actually gathering forces, plotting and planning their future moves in an upcoming war against each other. When the party is over the actual war begins.

The game features plenty of mechanics merged into one unique mixture. We have bag building, card drafting and obviously: area control. Every character from Alice to Red Queen has some unique, asymmetrical powers that make playing them unique. There are 3 wars waged during one game, and each of them has an interlude with yet another tea party to prepare.

The Last Bottle of Rum – February 25th

If there’s a theme we never get enough of – it must be pirates. In The Last Bottle of Rum the story feels pretty dramatic, especially from an average pirate’s point of view. Apparently all supplies of rum have been exhausted. All, except for one final bottle. That’s enough to make the craziest and most dangerous crews go on a hunt to collect money and buy their bottled holy grail before others.

The game is designed for 2 to 5 players. To afford the titular ”last bottle” a player needs to amass 10 Booty Points. You can get them in a few different ways including hunting for precious relics, finding rare eggs and getting other valuable goods. As the area you will be sailing through is made of hex shaped tiles, each game will be different and offer different archipelagos every time you set out on an adventure.

There are also some aggressive actions available to spice up your voyages. You can for example attack other players by shooting cannonballs. Be careful though as you may also get attacked, and not only by players, but by a colossal Kraken, who will hunt you if you gain too many Curse Points by playing certain cards.

A creative approach to the euro game genre is heading to Kickstarter on February 27th. If you’re bored with managing farms and cities, why not try summoning some hellish spawns while using some good old meeple based worker placement?

Goetia: Nine Kings of Solomon is played on a world map made of square tiles. The setup is randomized, and each time you will quite likely get a different set of areas where your workers can do their job.

Gaining resources from the tiles allows players to recruit even more workforce or to make your existing subjects worship demons. Placing enough meeples on a Scry Board will make a demon appear and allow players to get their hands on his cards. These usually affect the core rules of the game and can lead a player to victory.

 Chai: Tea for 2 – March 17th

Chai was one of the most intriguing projects that had their Kickstarter campaigns last year. A peaceful theme about the most popular drink of the world paired with a heavy dose of enjoyable mechanics and beautiful components.

Chai: Tea for 2, despite its name, is not just a 2 player “duel” version. According to the authors we’re about to get a completely different experience than in the original game. While the original Chai could be enjoyed by 2 players, this one is strictly a 2 player game (with an optional solo mode).
This time, a dice placement and engine building mechanics were added to spice things up. With these the game becomes much more complex, heavier and obviously: competitive due to its 1v1 nature. Your task will again be to make a perfect tea plantation consisting of different varieties: from green to oolong, and make a certain amount of clipper contracts to solidify your victory.
